Wright & McGill bamboo fly rod 8.5' 3/2 #5/6 line. Up for sale is a restored and updated Wright & McGill Stream and Lake 8642. 8 ½’ 3/2 rod. The rod tube and the rod bag are not original but do fit the rod. The rod is sound in cane, ferrules, reel seat and guides. All of the original guides were removed and the snake guides were replaced with cleaned older good conditioned W&M guides. The original stripping guide was replaced with a new one. In addition the next guide up on the mid section was replaced with a new stripping guide as well, smaller in diameter than the one on the butt section. A snake guide was carefully added next to the grip retaining the original Wright & McGill as well as the Stream and Lake scripting. Although this is not a standard feature I felt it was needed. The red wraps were removed as well as the original varnish. New varnish was applied and new silk wraps all round. The wrap color is not the original bright red but a burnt gold. [ Sorry but was way too gaudy for me. ] The wraps have a reddish tint after varnishing. Additionally, the schematic for the guides was changed. I used a similar length Walton Powell rod as a template and added guides to the tip top and mid sections. Excluding tip top the tips each have six snakes and the mid has four snakes on it. The butt has one stripping guide. The reel seat was taken apart, cleaned, buffed and oiled and the ferrules were carefully cleaned and buffed as well. I used this rod last year several times after the refurb. The rod performed flawlessly, landing numerous fish. Some in the MO State “keeper” range for wild trout. Cortland WF6F Sylk, Cortland WF5FSylk, Cortland Trout Boss WF4F and Cortland Sink Tip WF5F/S lines. Along with the rod is a Cortland Trout Boss line that is listed as a WF4F, but weighs out for a WF5F line. As well - there is a Shakespeare Russel jeweled with xtra spool that goes along with the rod. The reel and spool both have the Spitfire finish on them and were gone over, cleaned, buffed, oiled and springs and pawls were swapped out if deficient to yield a strong click and drag. This is not a mint rod, but restored to be a well functioning fishing tool. Items will be shipped via US mail Priority. CONUS sales and delivery only. Shipping cost includes all items.
