Daiwa Saltiga BJ 4000 (Bay Jigging). This is a Daiwa Saltiga BJ 4000 that I fished in the surf once, and as far I could see, is still in excellent + condition. As you could see in the pictures, there are no blemishes. I baby my gear, which is maybe why I don't catch that many fish (?). Looking for excuses now.... This is an important caveat however.... After the first and only time I fished this reel in the NJ surf, I noticed a small amount of corrosion in the handle shaft area. It's not there now (see pictures), and it should be noted that I rinse my gear immediately after fishing in the salt (this reel included). The magnesium-based monocoque body of this reel is not supposed to corrode, especially after one outing, but I did notice a tiny bit of brown on the inside. With that in mind, I think, maybe, Daiwa overstated how impenetrable this reel really is. Caveat emptor. Rinse after every outing! However, this is the smoothest reel I ever fished, and I own Stellas. To say that winding this reel is effortless is not an exaggeration. At times, I feel as if I didn't properly screw in the handle enough -- it's that easy. A "reel"'engineering marvel, this one. Ask for more pictures! I realize it's a big purchase -- no amount of questions is too much. Thank you!!
